Incumbent Worker Training

Grants to employers to assist with training

Incumbent Worker Training provides employers with the opportunity to build and maintain a quality workforce and increase competitiveness. It is a type of work-based training designed to ensure employees of a company can acquire the skills necessary to retain employment and advance within the company, or to acquire the skills necessary to avert a layoff.

Incumbent Worker Training is responsive to the special requirements of an employer or group of employers for the purposes of delivering training to:

Help avert potential layoffs of employees
Increase the skill levels of employees so they can be promoted within the company and create backfill opportunities for the employers

Priority will be given to projects that:

Address a strategy to avoid a significant layoff
Identify a model that will make Kansas’ current or future workforce more competitive
Allow employees to achieve significant upgrade in skills
Operate industries or programs that have been targeted by the Local Workforce Development Board
Address a significant occupational demand
Demonstrate strong partnerships with a Local Workforce Development Board in the identification, development and delivery of the project

The Incumbent Worker Training program is funded by the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and administered by the Kansas Department of Commerce and Local Workforce Development Board.
