The Konza Woodwind Quintet of Kansas State University is an active touring and teaching and performing group. It includes Dr. Kristyn Son- flute, Dr. Alyssa Morris- oboe, Dr. Tod Kerstetter- clarinet, Dr. Jacqueline Kerstetter- horn and Dr. Susan Maxwell- bassoon.
The Konza Winds have performances for all audiences. Programs can be catered to the listening audience including children’s concerts to complex new art works. One of the programs is called “Something Old, something new, something borrowed, something bluesy”
The group can offer short lecture or “concert talks” free to the community about classical music and the music performed. These often include relevant musical details and history that can enrich the performance.
For educational outreach the Konza Winds is excited to have each member share about their instrument, common works for the instrument and demonstrations as a part of a concert. This helps the audience learn about sound and distinguishing it out of a group. This type of thoughtful listening is a great skill for kids and helps them appreciate music as well as critical thinking. (We also like to make it fun!)
